Memorandum by the Colonial Secretary
The provision is made in the Estimates for four Assistant English Masters at the Central School, all drawing the same emoluments, viz: $1440 per annum and $360 per annum to find lodgings.
It has been customary to describe them as 4th, 5th, and 6th masters, classing them generally (but not always, as will be seen further on) according to the duties of their appointments.
On 7th March 1878, M. Guther was appointed to be acting Second Master at the Central School, and he has since been continuously employed as acting Second Master.
